The replacement flooring in Christian IV’s Brewery was supplied by Gamle Mursten and soft yellow Flensborg bricks were selected for the extensive renovation of the building’s historical spaces.
Christian IV’s Brewery on Slotsholmen in Copenhagen has undergone an extensive renovation that has restored the building to its original grandeur while adapting it to modern requirements.
Originally built from 1606-1608 as a military bastion and later converted into a royal brewery in 1618, the building has been a central part of Copenhagen’s history for several centuries. After a fire in 1767 that destroyed a large part of the building, it was used to store and sell beer.
The renovation of the building was made possible through donations from foundations such as the Trygfonden and the A.P. Møller and Wife Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation.
One of the most striking elements of the renovation was the restoration of the flooring on the first floor. Gamle Mursten supplied the bricks for the renovation, and the bricks used for the floor came from Ærø. The beautiful yellow Flensborg bricks helped to recreate the building’s historical expression and give the floor an authentic look.
